The city's 2026 position assessment names an above-average share of employment in the information and communication industry as a defining feature of the location; DATEV has its headquarters here, and NürnbergMesse counts itself among the 15 largest trade fair companies worldwide. In the Smart City Index 2026, Nuremberg ranks 4th.

Founded in 2021, the Technische Universität Nürnberg offers a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, while the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm runs a Center for Artificial Intelligence. Since 17 February 2025, the AI HUB Nürnberg has advised companies on AI free of charge on behalf of the city; the economic development agency reports that more than 400 companies had been reached by February 2026.
